Everything is doable, at a price. The TDV6 has been fitted up to earlier models in the UK but it would cost you an absolute fortune due to the electronic wizardry required. Better off fitting an LPG conversion, or possibly a 4 cylinder 300TDi out of a Discovery series 1. My friend has a '94 LSE that got an auto 300TDi conversion to it a year ago, an intercooler upgrade and a bit of tuning and he's very happy with the towing ability (boat and caravan). Even with a lot of DIY this simple conversion still cost him around $10K, mainly for buying a donor D1 and getting every mechanical part in good order before fitting.

I have not heard TDI300 and 5.3mt 2 tonne van mentioned in the same sentence for a while.

What about a TD5 conversion ?? or buy a TDV6 Rangie and tow with it.

Not a problem. New Turner performance head, new Allisport intercooler, bigger trans cooler, diesel gas, fuel and boost hose fiddled with accordingly. It has no problems doing what a stock 3.9 did with double the fuel usage (triple on gas). Towed a dead P38 600m in altitude up Mt Lofty without flinching. Just needs the revs held up in the higher part of the torque band.

The other alternative is to go for a td5 along with its transmission ... like a certain LSE over here. . . Which goes exceedingly quick, and with minimal thirst.
