Rangie has randomly died,
Good evening all,
Firstly before I get into my Rangies "issues", I just want to express my ongoing awe for our new D4.. When we towed our 1600kg van with the Triton, you knew it was there and acceleration from a standing start was a bit slower, but you felt confident that you could cruise comfortably and overtake easily enough. Well the benchmark has been risen.. the D4 just towed Rangie on a car trailer(about 3.5t, maybe more) without thinking about it, and at 15l/100 at 90kmh.. Amazing!
Meanwhile, last week a random guy comes into work, asks about my car and says to me, "I have a 92 Vogue se at home and it's yours if you want it". So I grab his details and organise a time to check it out.
I pretty blown away at this stage. I live in a town over 300km from anywhere, surrounded by Toyota's and the only dealership is a Toyota one, yet I have found a 88 diesel RRC and now this. There are more floating around as well, I have seen them.
So on Monday I go over to check it out, expecting a rotting corpse, but discover a very very straight and tidy RRC. Leather interior, sunroof, winch bar and all the other good fruit. He told me it was running a 4.6lt(?) On straight gas. The reason it was there and why he gave up on it was that it wasn't producing spark and he didn't have the time to work on it anymore, so he thought after 5years sitting there, I who had an interest could make better use of it.
Well after talking about the car and Land Rover idiosyncrasies in general, I went to leave and guess what.. my Rangie would not start! Just winds over like it's missing something. Did a few quick checks, amplifier wiring, spark-yes, full tank of fuel, tried to get the fuel pump to kick in by pushing the flap all the way in and nothing. I think it may have done a fuel pump.
So after a 4hr battle to get it into a car trailer(tyres rubbed the sides the whole way up) I have it at home so I can work out what is going on.
I will be reading the service manual for steps to take, but if anyone has any experience with a similar problem, help would be appreciated.
Regarding the 92? I might take it. Just need a home for it and to work out what I will do with it.
Thanks guys..
