One motor (the V8) will be smooth, silky and seductive. The other will first make all your teeth fall out then the teeth of any transmission other than a 5 tonne truck box will fall out too.![]()
Hi Guys,
For the last 2 years my Rangie has been sitting at home, unloved an getting driven maybe once every 3 months! Motor is tired and goes through petrol like I go through bourbon!
Had it on gas for a while but the tank stuffed up so I removed the tank and cleared the boot area again. I quite like the extra space I have now in the rear!!!
Anyway after owning this car for the last 8 years I am finally gonna rip that motor and trans out and do a engine and trans conversion!
I have a 4l80e trans already just needs a rebuild. Got it quite cheap!!!
I can get my hands on a ls1/2/3 quite easy, but I have also been looking at graysonline and I have noticed quite a few 4bd1T motors for sale! Don't know conditions of them but willing to risk it!
I am stuck between two styles of motors
Powerfull, light weight, lots of electronics and sort of more economical than the old v8 rover motor. But you could overlook the fuel usage because LS!
and them you have the 4BD1T
don't know much about them but I hear they are very reliable, fuel efficient, heavy as f***, and have lots of torque.
don't know what motor to put in!
I want good fuel economy, reliability and good acceleration!
what are your thoughts people!
Cheers Goran

I know the ls engines quite well my daily is a SS Commo, been around them for about 15 years now! got my first ls1 powered car in 99. Great engines, but the 4bd1t do they really rattle that bad? or you trying to stir up the Isuzu guys!!
What is 4bd1t acceleration like to 100kph?
Can you get it to accelerate to 100kph like the new common rail diesel? I know Ford Ranger 3.2lt 0 to 100 in under 13sec!!
Sorry to but in
I just joined but where the hell do you post threads We cant find a link anywhere
Thanks
Its got an extra 700CC and without emission control stuff to worry about it comes down to how much you want to spend and how much of a lecture you want me to give it about lack luster performance.
Cmon sheeluck be fair, quote the right book, the 4bd1 specifies months, the 4bd1-t is in weeks.

If you think you're in front on the deal, pay it forwards.
I'd say LS it.
LS has plenty of power (you'd probably be disappointed with the 4BD1), parts are easy to come by, plus you've had experience with it. Aftermarket support for the LS is crazy- you could go mild to wild if you want.

Wow. 2 totally different driving experiences right there 😮. The LS for sound and some smooth cruising and sandhill blasts however heavy on the fuel... 4BD1T for truck like appeal more torque lower down than an LS and easily half the fuel consumption. I had both in my rrc (a 4.7 stroker rover v8 not an ls) and missed the sound and smoothness of the v8 but the 4bd1t won out due to touring fuel range and towing/ offroad capabilities. Don't forget that the isuzu will eat most autoboxes for morning tea i would be using at a minimum a 4l80e....

The Isuzu 110. Solid and as dependable as a rock, coming soon with auto box😊
