    Another swivel hub question

    Hi all

    Somewhere on this vast knowledge base I read that some people have used Morley's oil fortifier in their swivel hubs rather than oil or one shot grease.

    What's people's thoughts ....... I need to check the hubs on new Rangie and purchase one or the other.

    Why not use the correct stuff?
    The only time it really needs changing is if it gets water in it and all types would need changing in those circumstances.

    I don't think Morey's would be thin enough to get up into that top swivel bearing that well. I've also had a couple of axles from wrecks that were ruined because they had one-shot grease and then water got in, rusting everything. I use oil because it's easy to change and if the axles are rebuilt correctly, they don't leak, (er, that much.)

    Have used oil in my 2d classic......

    This forum is also a wealth of knowledge where those such as yourself who give handy hints and tricks learned over many years of Landover ownership.

    Example bee utey's retrofit to replace the Lucas electronics ...in the quest for alternatives that may be of benefit to us newbies

    As I said it was in a post I read and the poster said hadn't had any swivel hub problem since using it.

    I couldn't find the post although I have used Morley's in a engine i thought I'd ask the question about using it in swivel hubs .....

    You both ask and raise points that are valued ..... I'll check them on the weekend and replace with oil

    Hey Baggy my 2 cents worth.
    Had rangies since 1983....not long was told by some of independents repairers of that era to use 100% moreys engine oil stabiliser in my swivels. 525000kms later and still on original swivels,wheel bearings,power steering box and pump..
    Why..well I put it down to the moreys. It's in my differentials my gearbox,4 speed lt95 and transfer case, a little in the power steering. Obviously not at 100% in those. That was a 1982 model that's still running in Lancelin today.

    My current Rangy an 89 model I have it in the auto box and Borg Warner transfer and all of the above. The driveline has now done 416000k and still ok.
    I am a firm believer in moreys and have been using it and the grease since about 1986...

    Use it in the swivels without any reservations..I do

    My 91 always leaked in the LH swivel as it had a rust mark on it presumably from sitting on grass while new.
    I changed to one shot and it practically stopped the leak,with new bearings and seals.

    Just remember that the one shot has mos2 in it .
    I am not sure that Moreys does although their chain lube is great and my Honda Hornet chain was like new when I sold it with 34kk on it.

    The Land Rover one shot grease was/is a useless idea and was merely done back in the day to try and prevent or make less obvious leaking swivel hubs until out of warranty.

    Ive always packed the swivel hubs with grease, Land Rover and Land Cruiser as both suffered oil leaking swivel hubs.
