FYI the insides of the canister are most likely knackered there is mild steel perforated plates in them and charcoal falls out once the rust has eaten big holes in lower plate. It is listed as service item but is expensive. I cut mine in half midway through area the clamp holds it. Brought some activated charcoal from pet shop ($12 per kilo one is enough). Cut two new perforated plates from s/s fly wire. One for holding contents in top to enable glueing together the other to replace factory original that had rusted away- on bottom of canister. Glued it back together with araldite. Clamp also holds it together. Fingers crossedAdsorption canister 78 Range Rover

Superb idea, thanks very much. I'd heard somewhere at sometime that the charcoal goes "off", and then forgot all about it. It's a good thing to have on a car. From my dodgey memory, something like 25% of emissions are from an open fuel tank, 25% from an open crankcase, and 50% from the exhaust.
At any given point in time, somewhere in the world someone is working on a Land-Rover.
