Angry Another go at the attempted scam

About three years ago the same dude said he was at Tindal! But as a member of the Officers' Mess, not a senior NCO and heading back to UK having left his vehicle crated in Darwin.

He advertised a D4 2012. The ad attracted my attention. I'm from a service background, and the terminology he used when describing his circumstances was NQR.

So I called RAAF Tindal, got the "not at this address" reply, went to VicPol, reported the lowlife to eBay and the bank I deal with. No money changed hands, but, emboldened, perhaps he's poked his scone above the parapet again.

    Shoot it off!!!!

Gentlemen be aware that if you are scammed with a dodgey purchase of any kind and you have paid with a credit card, if reported to your bank/financial institution with "Sixty Days" you should get all of your money back. After sixty days they cannot guarantee you will get it all back.
This happened to me a while back with a mob that did not take "Paypal" so i used my Visa Card. It was only a couple of hundred bucks and the add seemed to be genuine, but alas, it was a scam.
The mongrels are out there trying every angle they can for an easy buck.

    Cheers, Mick.

Good advice. I'll not purchase anything on line that isn't through PayPal. Got done just once & PP came to the rescue. I don't care how they get their money back ie. Standover, Gangsters, blackmail et al I don't give a flying **** so long as I get mine.

    In minor defense of Gumtree

I had one incident myself but the value was negligible. I live in the bush where face-to face transactions are rarely possible, so I use Gumtree regularly and find the vast number of sellers honest and reliable. I have bought many things this way including various Range Rover parts BUT I would only buy relatively low value items - a few hundred dollars at most.

Additionally, I always try to speak to the seller by phone - not just communicate via the message App. Even then, I usually insist on getting a direct email address (not the Gumtree one) and will only pay by bank transfer within Australia (never overseas) once I get the seller's details. This technique isn't foolproof, but it does carry some sensible precautions.

I sincerely hope you get your money back.

Looking seller's English in the first post (and subsequent ones from the same miscreant), it threw red flags at to me immediately.

My sister had one a while back along similar lines when selling her car. Based on the words and the mention of escrow, I was certain it was a scam.
