    Help me make a decision!

    Hi all,

I'm hoping that you guys can help me make a decision.

Today I picked up a 92/3 RRC from a guy who had been bugging me to take it for nearly a year. Free of charge.

When I did check it out almost a year ago I originally thought it was in pretty good nick, but after having it home I'm now thinking it's not that great and would be a bit too much work. I'm not overly keen on another project when I'm still fighting to finish the ute conversion.

The reason the owner wanted to give it away was because it had been sitting for a couple of years due to it having a no spark issue, which most of us here know is usually from the ignition module. The car is straight gas (no good for here), fresh stroked 3.9lt(4.6 or something), a Vogue SE and he has spent some serious money on it in the time leading up to it stopping, including a new viscous coupling and drive chain.

My initial thoughts were to turn it into a duel cab. But then I thought to repair it then pass it on. But now I'm thinking parting it out which brings it own challenges, as I live near Katherine NT, far from anything.

There are some nice bits on it. I'm thinking about taking the winch bullbar, the roof lining and maybe the cruise control.

So I am in a pickle.

I also wonder how much of it could be swapped to my 89 RRC.

Please help me responsible, I really have no room for another project.

    Thanks in advance,

    Kon

What exactly makes it feel as though it is not worth the work it needs? Rust in the usual places? Chassis damage/rust? Destroyed interior?

Easy enough to get rid of the gas, get it running and go from there? You might not feel like you have the time/money/patience for another project but if you give up on it easily you could be missing out. It doesn't owe you much so far!

That looks like an ARB deluxe winch bar - be keeping that!
    Rear bar dont look hot.

if ya not keen on a project but know what your doing, get it running and service it, clean it up best you can and sell her.

I haven't had much of a chance to check the usual spots for rust and the body is a bit rough, could possibly be polished a bit. The console area around the radio is in pieces and the timber around the cabin needs to be redone.

There is a pet barrier in the back which I will be removing and as mentioned, the bull bar will come off.

I guess if it does start and run it will make it more promising. Il remove the ignition module set up as per this forum and see if that gets it going. It's straight gas so all of the ecu has been eliminated, making the diagnosis a little easier.

I think if I gave it a wash I would be less turned off.

How hard would it be to sand back and redo the timber panels do you think.

Just stick her in the shed ... it won't go to waste... YOu'll ever pull bits from it to keep "others" going ... or get it on the road in time I'm not very good at selling cars, so I wouldn't part it out or sell it

Shane, see that's the thing, I live in defence housing and don't have the luxury of a shed or mass storage area. It's also frowned upon to have untidy yards.

After a quick look last night I found some rust in the passenger front foot well and judging by the "pass" on the front window from somewhere in NSW, it has spent a bit of time in the sand.

But what I did discover is that so far it looks like they only removed the petrol tank and all other sensors and ecu are still there.

I don't know, I'm still at odds. the state of the interior isn't helping.

Am I right to believe that the 93 model had 23 spline axles? And bigger front brakes?

93 will have vented front brakes, calipers are the same.
It will also only be 10 spline axles

Er . . . I might take it! It wouldn't be too hard to ship it down the road to Derby. See what you think.
At any given point in time, somewhere in the world someone is working on a Land-Rover.
