V8 fuel injectors.

Was/has it run fine with the fuel pressure reg thats in it now?

Are you now 100% sure ignition is right?

It should not run with the fuel pump shut off. Ifs it vac drawing fuel through, it would need to be a decent source, ie direct from a fuel source into manifold, fuel pressure reg or charcoal canister (long shot) would be the things hooked into both. Can't see injectors doin it, too much restriction to allow enough fuel flow.

Try disconnecting charcoal canister and fuel reg vac line, remove fuel hose from cold start injector and fit a gauge to hose and check pressure here, set fuel pressure to around 25-27psi. That should be enough for a decent idle. If it runs, pull fuel pump relay and make sure it looses fuel pressure and stops.

You certainly got a curly one on your hands.....
Mite be time to restart at the start and recheck the basics.

Fuel reg, yes. I am going to put the original one back in and see how that changes anything. I highly doubt that it will.

I have been over the ignition a million times now, as with the rest of the tests. Every electronic component has been swapped out with the same results.

The fuel is drawing in through the main fuel feed. With the line to the cold start injector off, you can feel it sucking when running. I have clamped off lines one at a time and the only one that has effect is the main fuel feed.

With this in mind, if I connect the pump to run it instantly floods and stalls. The bulk smoke out of the exhaust is a pretty sure sign.

I have done the tests in the Wedge bible also, including taping all sources of air (charcoal canister included) and running then removing bits of tape to see a change. Same result.

So after all of this testing, swapping and wasting of money it has come back to the original problem of the ECUs. One is opening the injectors 100% and allowing the fuel to be drawn in and the other is not opening at all.

Can anyone tell me the difference between the Lucas 4cu 84477B and 84477D?

Can you hear the injectors cycling? Bit of pvc tube helps here.

So I think I have finally swore at it enough and as we speak is currently starting and running.

BUT..

I am yet to clean everything away properly and if like last time I give it enough time, it may not start.

So let's pray to the Land Rover gods and hope this is randomly fixed. Will need to go sacrifice a oil filter or something to them to keep them satisfied.

Did a few test drives and all is well in the world. Start to push the limits by actually going away from home and it just cut out as I was moderately getting towards 100. Won't start, have no idea what is going on..

Lucky I placed a bid on the ecu I found on eBay.

I sometimes feel my posting on here is more of an outlet of rage than a cry for help. Although crying has maybe helped.

And I do know that there are people on here hoping I can get this thing sorted, as it may very well be an issue they or someone they know has in the future.

Ruffty tuffty big ballsy Land Rover owners don't cry, well, except when the spare wheel drops onto your toes or the Hi-lift Jack slips & the handle lands on your nuts. That would really make a grown Man cry.[bawl]

So now get this..

Get the car home via the Disco towing service and go to jump start the car on the old ECU without the fuel pump. No go. Just for s#%&s and giggles I connect the fuel pump back up. Now it runs and idles like it used to.

Surely my car has a sick sense of humour and is toying with me. I'm not going to give it the new bull bar and winch I promised it if it keeps this up!
