There is a cluster of earths on the bell housing (bottom) that must include an earth for the ecu, My old rangie would stop at random times and I had many people tell me I had a cracked board in the ecu. Turns out I had aa mate under there one day quoting me an exhaust, when He finished the car wouldn't start. He got back under and repeated his movemnts and it started. He then started looking and found loose earths, bolt was bottomed out, fitted a washer and no more problems
    cheers
