    Tacho bouncing

    Has anyone ever experienced this tacho bouncing before?

    Happens with ignition in the on position, engine not running. Fuel low light will also flash.

    Factory tacho runs off the W terminal on the back of the alternator, the connector is often loose on the blade connector. Other than that I would be cleaning every earth cable between battery, body and engine, even adding a couple of new ones. I wouldn't be surprised if your EFI ran better after fixing the body earth too.

    I have a feeling this wasn't happening when it was running fine on the old ECU.

    I have disconnected the connector from the alternator and it's doing the same thing.

    From rehashing over the wiring diagrams, the only thing in common between the ecu and the instruments is ignition on white wire.

    Disconnect the ignition coil positive and continue observing. I've often found that electronic ignitions seem to generate hash even when stationary, enough to permanently excite LPG safety cut-out relays.

    And there may be a body earth under the coil bracket too.

    No change. Replaced the main battery earth cable and replaced EFI earth's at back of head, still bounces.

    I 'm thinking that one of the diodes in the alternator is dodgy - do you have, or can you borrow, a spare alternator to try ?

    Currently the alternator is not in the equation and it still bounces.

    Have removed the Multi-Function unit and it has gone away. Saying that, it is all things tacho and fuel/temp gauges, so not really any help.
