If you are talking the rear idler arm behind the diff, the usual way is to pop out both tie rod ends.

Is this normal? Is there any tricks I'm missing?
The tie rod hits the radius arm when I tried to remove it. I jacked up the chassis to try to push up the arm, give more clearance and the tie rod bolt is still about a 10mm from coming out.
The tie rod appears to be a heavy duty one.

From memory you need to wind the steering to full lock either one way or the other to gain clearance. Jacking it up won't change the relationship of the diff to the radius arms unless you only jack up the chassis on the side you're working on, then you get a bit of twist. I don't recall it being very difficult once you find the right spot.
