My cowl had been damaged when the last fan decided it didn't want to stay in one piece now it was all grown up. I replaced the fan but didn't get around to repairing the cowl and couldn't find a replacement. Not smart. Got away with it for just over a month (2 trips to town over bush roads) then it picked up a rock, snapped a blade and buggered the top hose. This time, it didn't take half the bonnet out with it.
I suppose the good news is that with the cowl and fan out, it is now much easier to adjust the belts (pre-serp) that were squealing.
Warning - don't drive without the cowl in place!
I'd just fit some falcon fans ...
Having said that it is so quiet I can now hear I have a tapping valve at idle (I probably need to figure out how to lift the idle by 300rpm. it seems to be idling at about 500rpm).
