    Holden/Range Rover parts

......not sure if this has been put up before, but I was reading an old 4x4 mag the other day and there was an article about a Rangie they were racing in W.A. and they were getting about 300 horses from the 3.5 using, amongst other bits and pieces, Holden pistons and lifters.
Anybody got any idea what Holden bits will fit the 3.5L......I had never heard of this before......gotta be cheaper than RR parts.

yes, Holden Lifters & Pistons were a direct substitute, stands to reason as Buick just took parts direct from GM inventory for the 3.5 where possible instead of designing everything from scratch.

Hi all I had a 3.5 with bigger liners fitted and holden186 pistons.
its not a straight swap and gudgeons had to be machined ....and for me 30 though composite head gaskets had to be hand made as I had the block decked twice and heads 3 times. It was balanced and the pistons were flat tops..It went well and is still going after 400k unfortunately I don’t own it anymore all this in a 1982 4 door.

Yep a lot of holden parts fit the rover. It is a Buick GM after all. So the Commomwhore 3.8's bottom end is a rover with 2 piston cut off.

But it you are after power and torque, don't screw around just fit a 4.6 from a P38. Best bang for buck and there are lots around.

The common whore 3.8 was actually a FWD engine that Holden made into a rwd configuration and has no compatible parts with a 3.5. The pre 85 3.8 was virtually a V8 less 2 cylinders and a few parts do fit.

Not quite correct. It was a rwd engine at first.

Correct but the engine used by holden is the FWD version which has the smaller bellhousing and not the previous BOP (Buick/Olds/Pontiac) pattern and also why the coolant hose runs from the rear of the motor and not the front. this motor also came in a 3ltr capacity.
