    '83 3.5 V8

I have just been offered an '83 3.5L motor from a 4 door auto, mine is an '81 2 door manual, and I was thinking of freshening up the '83 for my '81....so, some questions ( actually lots of questions....)

Will the 3.9 EFI heads and cam fit straight in?
Will my manual box bolt up ?
What year 5 speed will bolt up?
The '83 has a Holley setup, will it or my '81 manifold bolt up to the EFI heads?
Excusing my ignorance, but what is an.....EFI SD1...I'm assuming a series one Disco, maybe??????

Any answers will be greatly appreciated,

    Roger

EFI SD1 is the fuel injected motor out of a Rover SD1 sedan not a RR.

ebay149545674358010 SD1.jpg If you are thinking of buying an SD1 motor to fit your RR you may find the cam is different grind also I think the oil pump , water pump & timing cover changed but don't quote me , I have it in the back if my mind remember reading somewhere .

Pretty much all 3.5 and 3.9 parts will interchange, I wouldn't be fitting a used cam .

Have a watch of this guy before you buy new cams and lifters .... quite frustrating and interesting.

this guy posts really interesting stuff (even if I'm not really interested in the type of vehicles he drives/owns).

Thank goodness my cam and lifters were brought 6 years ago gives me some hope! And from same manufacturer though that's not a reliable indicator of where material was sourced from.

The cheapest way to go about this is find a disco 1 with a good driveline and move the entire lot across. A later disco 1 would have 24spline diffs, LT230, R380 and a 3.9 serpentine belt motor. I have a disco 1 motor/box/transfer case fitted to mine .... but still need the diffs (my rear diff has a huge amount of lash).
