OK having owned 3
Heart says 81 update 2 door with better gear shift on LT95 and better window sliders.
Pure RRC.
Head says 91 3.9 auto Vogue .
Good wiring and connectors
14CUX , good starting, 3.9 , no ABS, no air suspension, no electric seats.
Aftermarket repairable alarm system and cruise control.
Downside BW transfer but I found them good with only problem rear splines.

I look for originality, no accident damage repairs, no rust, provenance as to previous owner/s service history, and mechanical repairs. Plus previous usage type, body and interior condition. Then there is the 'X' factor which entails all the above plus colour, how it sounds and drives. Not all Classic Rangies posses this intangible quality.
Hmmm...that's more than five isn't it.......oops.
What turns me away from any used car is if it has been a regular tug.
As others have said with their Classics, no rust in my LSE either. Been a country car all its life and never been near the briny.
Good topic Mercguy.![]()
I had an 81 and an 85, for me body/chassis condition is paramount .
Mechanicals are easily repaired but the alloy panels are a nightmare and beyond most home mechanics.
MY08 TDV6 SE D3- permagrin ooh yeah
2004 Jayco Freedom tin tent
1998 Triumph Daytona T595
1974 VW Kombi bus
1958 Holden FC special sedan
I guess it could be called a fixation as I monitor the prices of those Rangies years which interest me. What I have noticed is that more than a few of the expensive car ads don't last for very long. The supposition on my part is that they are purchased hence the ad disappearing.
Any way - here's a list of what I saw today.
Year $
76 89000
79 53950
79 44990
81 30000
86 14500
82 12800
84 12000
95 39000
94 12990
92 18500
92 10900
I looked at a 2 door 77 once and the rear floor was rusted out and the rear crossmember gone .
However that was not all.
I drove it and it was almost unsteerable.
I looked under and the drop arm on the steering box lock plates had both been put on one side and the drop arm was falling off the splines.
Yikes!
Luckily I had my big socket with me and I tightened it up for the bloke and installed the lock plates correctly and bent them over..
Again, Some people!
