    Under bonnet light

I'm having some trouble working out how the under bonnet light turns on in my RRC, which is a '93 SSE. I must admit that I am not very experienced with sorting electrical problems so maybe my issue is simply a lack of knowledge or experience.

The repairs manual indicates that there is a switch on the fender inside the engine bay, although despite some considerable searching I have not been able to locate this. What I have found is what looks like a light switch (like on the doors). However, I've already replaced the bulb with one that I know is working so if this switch should turn on the light when the bonnet is opened then either the switch needs a good clean or I have a wiring problem (or there actually is a switch somewhere that I need to turn on).

Does anyone have a RRC of a similar MY, with an under bonnet light that works, that can provide me some guidance please?

Not sure how the later ones differed but my 86 RRC has a switch inside the guard as you’ve mentioned - can take a pic in the morning. Can’t recall where it picks it’s supply at the moment, again can take a look tomorrow if needed unless someone else knows a bit more about that year in the meantime. 😊
If you need to contact me please email homestarrunnerau@gmail.com - thanks - Gav.

The switch is on the side section of the plenum panel.

Hi all the light switch does is earth out the wire, so if you don’t have the switch look for the wire inside the plenum left hand side and if you find it earth on the body and the light should work. Some models have 2 lights and some early ones only had one..or maybe around the other way...it’s been a while..my 89 vogue has 2. If you need a switch jaycar will have them as they are the same as house alarm push switches or get one from any old wrecked cars as they are all similar and can be made to fit😁😁

The switch is basically the same as the door switches (I think the rod might be shorter). D1 have a modern looking version.

Thanks all for the guidance. I know where the switch (like the door switch) is on the plenum panel and I can see that it's connected in-line so it sounds like it might just need some cleaning of the contacts.
