Crikey.
Must have been some serious fitment gymnastics going on to fit a lathe in the back of a 2 door. were there any seats other than the drivers still in the car?
My POS has a 2" lift and pretty stiff springs in the rear. Boge was absent when I bought it.
Years later when I did a colour change (body swap) the Boge from the donor went in.
The only time I've had it really loaded on a trip it was down quite a bit at the back, but came up after driving it around to a stockish height, no higher. This was about what I expected.
It would then go down again overnight.
So nearly all the time I don't notice it's there, even when towing.

Roads?.. Where we're going, we don't need roads...

I’ve got a 1985 RR and the previous owner removed the Boge - it came with the car so didn’t took it. Has anyone had experience with rebuilt units from WW in Brisbane? They are still offering rebuilds of “blue” units.
When you load into an RRC the back will sink, but it will pump up within a kilometer or less if the Nivomat/Hydromat is OK. ( Nivomat is usually associated with 2 shocks a la Mercedes and Hydromat was AFAIR the marketing name by LR) They were also available on early Defenders and/or 110s as an option.
They do make the back feel a bit "toppy" with a load in but they are magic if matched with slightly stronger springs and air bags. Worse with no rear anti roll bars with stock springs but if stronger springs then the extra roll stiffness took the anti roll bar place.
I remember on the way to Kulumburu missing a big dip in shade and making air for maybe 10 metres or so while towing my camper trailer and the car landed straight and level.

Before I bought my modded POS (see post in this thread) I did get the dubious pleasure of being a passenger in a couple of bog stock 2 doors (soft stock springs all round and Boge fitted and working) on the road.
Body roll was somewhat 'disconcerting', all around the Boge. Some people didn't mind it though.
They were absolutely brilliant off road because the soft springs allowed so much articulation, with the Boge just keeping the arse from dragging when loaded.
Strongly agree with PA's comment about stiffer springs in the rear, don't worry about the front.
cheers, DL
I'd leave the nice soft springs there and fit bags into them .... its the best of all worlds. Towing with the boge felt like a quite unstable affair.... with bags in the rear springs, you stiffen the back up considerably as well as stopping it dragging its bum up the road ..... like its a dog with a bad case of worms
I run only a couple of psi in the bags when I'm not towing!

x2 on using airbags. I have medium 2" lift springs, but even they can sag and roll with heavy loads, didn't want to go heavier for the harshness - so the tuneable bags have been a very nice solution over the years. I have Polyair ones and run between 5 and 10 psi unless loaded. Remember to pump them up before loading though, bit difficult after the fact.
