    Range Rover classic glass

Hi all, looking for recommendations for a windscreen replacement and rubber in a Range Rover classic 2 door. Newcastle nsw, all the people I’ve spoken to don’t get back to you, dodge your follow up or say they can’t help with something so please offer recommendations.
    regards, Dan

Can’t help specifically for your area but I had mine done a couple of years ago and the local guy supplied and fitted a new screen and I bought the rubber. None of the larger mobs wanted a bar of the job - so if you haven’t call up the smaller guys and see if they will help - the screens are available.

    All the best.
If you need to contact me please email homestarrunnerau@gmail.com - thanks - Gav.

Can't help with your locatioon, however I had a local guy come out and do mine a few years ago.

Thicker than standard aftermarket brand (not Triple X) so not a gen-u-whine. Thicker, because the PRC made ones are of varying quality.

As it turned out, the screen was a real PITA to install. Mostly because it needed some trimming on the top corner drivers side to fit - but we did get it in after struggling for over an hour. YES.

New seal did not really help much either, but it's all properly urethane'd in and not mastic, so will never leak.

Cost about $380 for the glass, I had already bought genuine seal for 200, and fitting was 130, since he came to me and did take about 3x longer than it should have.

What was even better, was that he came to remove the existing glass and do a trial fitment, before going to his workshop to trim the glass, fit another screen and come back in the afternoon to finish mine.
I was glad I had a local guy do the job and not a franchiesee. Better quality glass and he was actually careful. I also had enough time to wire wheel away the little bit of surface rust and recoat the a pillars in satin black, with time for it to dry due to the glass needing some slight trimming.

Keep in mind that the aperture for the screen is often not "correct" or what I would say within factory tolerances.

Apparently he'd done hundreds of RRC/D1/D2 and they all suffer the same issue, regardless of the glass or the seal - it's just that some are worse than others. Old seals in hot water do not make the job any easier and will reduce the lifespan of the glass because of their inability to absorb shock as they age and harden.

Also, suggestion would also be to make sure you take care of any surface rust discovered, and also the sheetmetal gaps at the bottom of the a pillars and lower sill.

some Insurance policies also cover windscreen damage, so perhaps pursue that one if need be.
