    Dashboard exploded diagram

    Hi all,

I have an 87 classic that I pulled the dash out of a long time ago (electrical meltdown due to incorrect wiring by previous owner) and am now getting it back on the road. Because of the tyranny of time I can't remember where all the parts go and have been looking for a good exploded diagram or other resource to help. I have RAVE, that's no use for this, have checked youtube and googled like mad, but still can't find much that is useful. Electrical is done, sound-proofing replaced and it will be pretty nice when finished...if I can work out/remember how it goes together!!

    Any thoughts?

    Matt

Suggest you take pics, upload them here and ask which bits go where. Lots of variations on a theme in these cars, despite their somewhat common 'appearance'.

The bigger parts should hopefully be self-explanatory though. fasteners might be more difficult to remember.

However, collaborative effort will benefit everyone, so others may also benefit from your enthusiasm.

Thanks, that's a great suggestion...I found a bit more wiring I need to do before I start re-assembly and I'm putting a rear camera in it too, but I will post some photos once I start scratching my head.

1991 RRC - prior to dash removal ...?

Mercguy - I've been putting off dash removal in my 1991 until time, parts - SPACE! etc lined up with intestinal fortitude required to take it all on.

So - its soundproofing, HVAC, swap stereo position for switches and dash mount stereo head etc ...

I was thinking of taking photos as I go and renaming them in some way. Collecting fixings in ziplock bags, labelling and taping them to parent components - boxes etc. Had not thought much past this. There's a couple of youtubes but alone, these do not mitigate the risk of confusion enough - for me!

Any tips or useful links that may help would be very much appreciated!?

    Cheers
    Matto

That is useful, thanks. Another question for you learned folks, related to my original post. I have removed the heater unit to replace the core. There is a cut-out on the firewall behind the heater which is obviously for the fresh air intake, but mine has a flap that is glued closed. It looks like the heater is supposed to draw air through that hole from the plenum/scuttle vents. How should this work? I suspect mine has been glued closed for some reason (wading?).

Is the hole long and rectangular?

Yes it is..it looks like the heater inlet should sit inside it, or open it somehow, but like I said, mine is glued closed...I can't find a diagram/info to confirm how it should work.

I should add some photos...here you see the blocked off opening in the firewall and the corresponding rubber boot on the back of the heater unit. My best guess is that the heater opening has been blanked off, but I'd like to confirm that and see if anyone knows why?
