I've heard stories of the Q gears. Never seen one in person.
Images would convey the change in tooth count to reduce whine.
when you increase tooth count on helical gears or involute gears for the same diameter, the root becomes weaker.
Yes, you can manufacture out of better material, and in racing that would work - because you'd be doing regular inspection/testing.
on a vehicle designed to carry load and do long intervals between services... meh.
Some people can't abide the noise. You'll see them pondering about.
If you have the chance to swap it for a non q box, then maybe. but why not just install it and let it brak in it's own time, then replace it if required.
Some people hav no issues with theirs, so I can only imagine there is *some* kind of omission of mechanical sympathy, or there truly was a batch of faulty gears / hardening etc.
You'd have thought though - by now most of those failed units would be long scrapped.
