Programmable Ignition Timing

For the mechanical advance I removed the springs and glued two nuts, one on each stationary post where the springs attached. The inside diameter of the nuts were tight on the post and I ground down the outside to make them a tight fit.
The easiest way to lock the vacuum advance is to leave the vacuum advance module in place and remove the vacuum line.
For the wiring, after many attempts I finally got it worked out.

The vacuum line that previously ran to the distributor now runs to the black box, I am using full not ported vacuum. I have the black box fitted to the kick panel in the passenger footwell. I tried shielded wire from the module to the black box and back but it made no difference, I also tried resistor spark plugs, also no difference. I did find though that the spark plug gap had to be 0.7mm, but that's for LPG.
There is a MAP that comes with the unit called 'V8 single carb' that will be sufficient to get your car running. It is a bit of pain but the spark table can only be modified and saved with the laptop connected to the black box in the car.

Thanks for the info, I have a spare distributor I can experiment with while waiting for box to arrive.
You mentioned full vacuum, not ported? where do you tap into this? How.

I have some old serial to usb cables and a Laptop to make changes.

Do you think economy has improved? I know only testing will tell,

There is a vacuum accumulator ball next to the air intake on my 1988 RRC, it has something to do with the heater controls I think. This ball gets its vacuum from the drivers side of the plenum just in front of where the vacuum line for the brake booster is. I just put a T-piece in this line and used this vacuum source.

Even though we have been in an extended lockdown in Melbourne I have managed to get some km on the Range Rover with the new ignition. Only short trips to my brother's house and back, 10km each way, plus some idling in the driveway while I have been playing with the motor. I must say I am not really impressed with the figures, 280km and 68 litres of LPG out of my completely standard low compression 3.9, so around 25l/100km. I have a wideband O2 sensor fitted and the LPG mixtures are spot on and with the MAP I put into the ignition box it has a lot more power than with the old distributor. The LPG mixer I am using is a BLOS, just wondering if I change back to an Impco to see what sort of mileage figures I can get. I haven't tried it on petrol yet but have a MAP for it ready to go.

I get 4.5 k's or a little more on gas with the 350 and impco convertor.

It should get 5 with the new pointless ignition, but I haven't been driving it much at all to be able to tell.

Sounds about right to me. I do lots of low speed trips through the local pine forest to take the kids to school. and short'ish around town trips. I doubt I'd get better than 25l/100kms (I've never checked ..... don't want to know :o ). We are driving the wrong vehicles if we are concerned about fuel economy [bigwhistle]

When new the tested as 11mpg city .... But the seppoes have 4litre gallons. So we are looking at bang on 25.7L/100km. Which is pretty much what we are getting :)
