    Eyeball vents

My guess is that this is a common problem so I was hoping to piggyback off someone else’s research.
These are the vents I’m referring to.
    E0C088DB-A8F8-4B17-95E5-C18A085225F3.jpg
My left hand one almost works but the gears on the right hand flap do not mesh properly, so it doesn’t work very well.
The right hand vent has lost both flaps and the pin on the centre knob has broken allowing the flaps to fall off.
    B76AEB6A-1F96-45BA-B955-C32669708F93.jpg
According to the internet, these vents are possibly Mk 2 Cortina, Triumph TR6, Hillman Hunter, Alfa Romeo GTV6 and possibly others.
I have not been able to find new or second hand replacements anywhere (but that might just be me).
Has anyone found a source for the complete vent, or just the internal knob, Tee piece and flaps.
Or has anyone 3D printed these parts.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Regards
    Phil

Shane, They're bloody awesome, you won't regret it. reduces noise by a factor of about 10 compared to the factory crap.

    Rust proofing

As the body structure is complete and assembled after all of the rust and shoddy workmanship repaired it was time to prevent it rusting in the future.
While purchasing some KBS Rust Seal from their website I added in a can of Dynax-UB.
    5EAE27F4-6F8C-4928-A170-A9FDE9548C4C.jpg
It comes with a 1200 mm wand for spraying in cavities.
    I did :-
    Both A pillars.
    Both B pillars
    Both D pillars
Rear box section under the tail gate
    Both sills
Both of the front inner guard stiffeners.

The is a beautiful poo brown as you can see where it came out through a hole inside the A pillar.

The excess simply wipes off with a kerosene rag if done before it dries. I had to do lots of areas because of all of the cable holes etc.
The wand can also be cleaned out with kerosene so it can be reused.
I still have about a quarter of the can left.
Its not particularly cheap (about $70 from memory) but I’ve put a lot of work into repairing this and have no interest in doing it again.

    Disclaimer !
I have no connection with KBS, but if the product does what it states on the can and their website, it should be good.

    Regards
    Phil

It looks like an oil of some sort. I have no doubt it will be vastly superior to bare metal . I keep meaning to treat my cars with something like lanolin (which this may be). the problem is I was to fix and paint the all first ..... So that means it'll probably never happen

    Eyeball vents

Managed to buy a good second hand set of eyeball vents.

So, while fiddling around with the ventilation system, I took out the dash top vents. They were all loose and in some cases had the rivets torn through them.
According to the parts manual, the vents are riveted to the duct adaptor. Presumably this is done before the dash is fitted to the car as I can’t see how you would access them to drill holes and then install the rivets.
The vents have four clips on them that “should” hold them to the duct adaptor, however mine are permanently bent and do not clip into the adaptor with any restraint.
    4F486D8C-98E8-44D0-B240-B3B95E39AE60.jpg
What I needed was something to hold the clips out to where they should be. I cut a bit of aluminium strip and fitted that inside the vent to hold the clips out to where they should be.
    0C0095FD-F87B-4BC3-B992-D74DB252AAED.jpg AB1E8279-F488-42FB-8767-E29240B36EBF.jpg
This actually did the job and the adaptor required some force to fit onto the vent.
As the aluminium is quite soft I decided to make the strip out of galvanised sheet.
This holds the clips out with considerably more pressure and now the vents “snap” nicely into the duct adaptor.

    Another issue solved.

    Phil
