    This was exhausting

As I need to be able to move the classic around under its own steam I needed to fit an exhaust system to stop the exhaust from the headers burning the paint on the gearbox crossmember (and so I don’t deafen the neighbours).
They already put up with me grinding/sanding with power tools.
As the car has no doors, guards, lights fitted I couldn’t take it to an exhaust shop unless I paid for a tilt tray there and back.
So I bought some 2” and 2-1/2” pipe and three 2” 90 degree mandrel bent elbows and made this up.

    Haven’t started it yet.
I asked for a muffler that would provide a deep rumble but not loud or droney.

We’ll see how it sounds eventually.

The muffler is a Redback J635GBP for future reference.
I’ll let you know how it sounds once started.

Whils it doesn’t look dramatically different in this photo, it looks a lot better in real life.

Finally got the GPS pod finished.

Just in case you’re wondering why I’m phaffing about with this when there are bigger fish to fry, I have many jobs on the go at once.
When one stalls (need parts, boredom) I can amuse myself with other parts of the project, that way there is always some progress. Keeps me sane (although there is someone in the house that thinks otherwise) and motivated.

    Panel beating aluminium

Now let me stress up front, I’m no panel beater (unfortunately).
While the poor old Classic doesn’t have one straight panel, most of them didn’t look too bad when I bought it based on the photos on Gumtree. It was during the pandemic and I couldn’t travel to have a look in person.
I have started with the drivers door as I had to replace the quarter window frame anyway and you have to remove the window frame and glass to get it out so with that removed gave me the access I needed to straighten the door.
The area adjacent to the door lock was pushed in significantly and as there is double skinning and door stiffening it made the job fairly complicated and I had to make a few odd tools to get in, some via the key hole itself.

Someone had previously attacked the door with a sander and put significant gouges in it so it will still need a fair bit of filler but it’s better than it was.
I drew the lines across it so I could see the deviations more easily with my fading eyesight.
