Do you know this car?
as found.jpgfirst day at home.jpgair breather.jpgvent.jpgArm rest.jpg
I purchased this 1988 Highline about three months ago and was wondering if it’s known to forum members and/or if anyone can fill me in on its history. I’ve only been able to go back to around 2015/16 when it was bought by a previous owner from a young girl in Sydney (she was on her ‘P’s’ apparently?), but would love to know of any prior history if possible.
Some identifying features that may assist in its identification are;
1 – The air cleaner was routed 90º out the side of the bonnet to enable a second battery to sit in the front corner. The external intake on the bonnet looks quite professionally done – see photo.
2 – There are air vents on either side just behind the wheel arches. There is a fibreglass manifold behind each vent that directs air though to a replacement kick panel in each well. These kick panels in turn have a louvre attached that allows you to shut or direct any air flow. Again, the whole set up looks quite professionally done.
3 – Both front doors have arm rests fitted behind the pull handle. These are very well made and the timber on them is of the same type and stain as on the rest of the timber trim, so makes me wonder whether these may have been an original option fitted from new? Would welcome advice on that.
Lastly there is the remnants of a ‘Rover Club of Australia’ sticker on the tailgate glass. Whether this was prefixed with ‘Range’ or ‘Land’ I can’t tell.
Hopefully the above ‘features’ might jog a distant memory of the car. Any thoughts or leads from fellow RRC tragics welcomed. Thanks.
