    Torqueflite 727 to LT77 conversion

    My 82 RRC has been converted to an auto with a Chrysler Torqueflite 727.
    It still has the clutch pedal, master cylinder and clutch hydraulic line down to the bell housing.
    I’d like to convert it back to a manual but with an LT77.
    I had an 85 RRC Highline many years ago and was happy with the 5 speed behind the 3.5l V8.
    While the 727 and the LT77 both use the LT230 transfer case, I believe there is a difference in the adaptor housing.
    So I suspect I should shop for a complete LT77 with a complete LT230 attached ?.

    Any clarification and advice would be appreciated.

    The LT77 will bolt straight up to the early LT230 - the Auto would have had an adaptor to fit up to it I should think unless the LT230 was modified in some way to make it fit in which case you’d need to start again.

    Finding a good LT77 will be the tricky bit - you’d need a rebuilt unit as anything used would probably be flogged out by now.

    They aren’t the strongest box but behind a stock carbyed 3.5 they are fine - mine did 327,000KM and in that time towed a caravan around Australia twice, but it wasn’t flogged hard or did any off-road work so check the box carefully before buying or get a rebuilt unit from a reputable company.

    Sell the 727/lt230 combo and get an R380/lt230 from a D1.

    From what I read elsewhere on here, the R380/LT230 is a different length and requires the front and rear drive shafts as well doesn’t it.
    Will it all bolt up to the original RRC mounting points.

    If you have a disco parts car it won't matter. Just throw the 3.9, lt230 and R380 in there

    That’s pretty much what I did with my Rangie except with the Auto in between - bought the lot off a D1 being wrecked and whacked the whole lot in from radiator to rear diff. Torqueflite 727 to LT77 conversion
