    Valley cover pin hole repair

Hi all, I have some pin holes at the back of a valley cover from where water has sat and corroded through.
As these covers are NLA (P76), I was going to prep both sides and solder the holes.
Does anyone see any issues with this repair?

It is steel so I would try some of the knead it steel stuff or just Devcon.
Depends I guess how much blowby there is.
Maybe a self tapper or even a plate screwed on with sealant underneath.
    Regards PhilipA
After looking shape a plate to fit and then glue it on with self tappers around the edge.

Get it super clean and dry before any putties or adhesives. Use some brake clean or isopropyl with an abrasive like wire wool or metal scourer. Don't use anything that leaves a film like turps etc.
x 2 on Phiilip A's plate with some kind of oil resistant goop, except I would maybe use blind aluminium rivets to attach as they expand and squeeze to fill the voids. Magnetise and grease the drill bit to stop metal falling inside. Clean the cover plate well too. That said, if the goop is sticky enough and the plate is a good fit, mechanical fixings might not even be necessary.

From the pic,it looks like there are a few areas where its nearly corroded through, and one hole.?

If that is the case it needs patching.
Cut a patch of sheetmetal, braze with either bronze rod or 15% silver solder.
Bronze needs quite a bit more heat than silver solder, and for silver solder it needs to be 100% perfectly clean.

Brown tip,5% silver, may do it,but i much prefer 15% in that application, tricky to do,dont get too much heat into it,once it turns red,its all over with 15%.

How expensive is a new or a decent SH part?

Found this regarding the P76 Valley gasket, may be of use if you wanted to actually change it rather than repair.
    Cheers Jim

(Two ERC3990 Rover inlet manifold gaskets can be used. Both need to be cut. Use one to match the head ports, use the other to fill the gap and seal & rivet the overlaps)

Thanks for all of the ideas/solutions.
There are lots of pin holes in that area from where water had been sitting.
Perhaps a sheet of brass sweated on the underside and then solder the pin holes would keep its original appearance, noting that its almost impossible to see there once installed in the RRC.
Would it be expensive to have a copy laser cut from zincalume sheet ? I realise it wouldn’t have the stiffening ribs but providing the engine is breathing properly it shouldn’t pressurise the valley cover.

If you join the Leyland P76 Club you can purchase the P76 V8 valley gaskets new (remanufactured) from their spare parts section.
