14cux for thor swaps
Just wondering if any learned friends here have pursued / completed a thor swap into an RRC.
My Donor D2 has a rather fresh setup with the top end having recently been done, it would make a superb transplant into the old RRC - while I pull the softdash interior out for the LSE.
(LSE stuff in separate thread)
Given that there's nothing inherently wrong with the injection system of the RRC as it stands, but the internals are past their prime, I had given piecemeal thought to a block-only swap, but prefer the serpentine belt arrangement. Rear coilpack notwithstanding, it'd make a brilliant transplant - if it is "doable" without any interference from electrical nuisances (nanocom req'd) to make an install work without issue.
I don't want to have to transplant the entire d2 brain - just ecu only functions for engine. It would also be possible to swap transmission, but the transmission in the RRC is already nice. BW-LT230 swap could easily be done, but again, for the moment, not required.
If the bosch ecu stuff is too touchy-feely with other junk, then it's probably standalone ecu time or use 14cux with a bit of cobble-dy-shenanigans (not really desired) to make it work.
Perhaps any D2 owners can chime in with their experience of the thor ecu. It's not familiar to me - nor are D2's. Although I must say, the centre diff lock plus traction control with road-spec radial tyres were amazingly capable on the red grease tracks we have up here. Surprisingly good - enough to make me consider swapping the entire setup into the LSE (yes, wabco and all...) which I believe may have existed in a more primitive form but has been exorcised by a previous owner.
Just a couple of thoughts. Makes good sense to utilize every bit of a donor vehicle if possible - and if one unregistered d2 can make two outstanding RRC's then it's a win all round for me - and some obvious pay it forward stuff leftover for D2 owners afterwards.
comments / opinions welcome.
