    Fitting a BW35 auto into my 76Classic??

Hi all got a question regarding putting a bw35 3 speed into my 76 Classic.
so I’ve got a 76 Classic which has had a LT77 5 speed and a LT230 transfer case popped in at some point oh the transfer case serial number starts with 28D if that helps, however I would like to put an auto back, would it be straightforward putting the bw35 in will it simply attach to the engine or would I have to go a later model auto. Attached is a picture of the one I’ve got my eye on Resized_20231006_084938.jpgIMG_1502.jpg thanks in advance. Bruce

Back?, there wasn't a factory auto until 83 when the TF727 was fitted.
You would be better of with the TF as it was mated to an LT230 whereas the BW conversion used a cut down LT95 .

Fit a 4-speed ZF box from a later Classic. e.g., an '86 model?

Or a D1, which I imagine would be easier to find.

A bit more complicated on a carby engine to setup the kickdown cable but can be done.

The Borg Warner conversions had the auto literally stuffed into the front of an LT95. I had one as part of job lot and would never consider fitting it.

The whole LT95 ende up about 6" longer which required new trans mounts, a longer front and shorter rear propshaft and the transfer shift lever would have been back next to the seat.

The Ritters C4 / C9 conversions area work of art by comparison and the complete trans stays stock length. Getting hard to find these days.

A guy called Noel at Ritters told me in the 90's that the one I have (from an '81 2 door with A/C) would have been a JLR Aust. option at the time.

it's fine behind a 350 with 3 forward gears (remember Chef Impalas came with a 2 speed), but a RRC with a 3.5 would be better to drive with a ZF.

    cheers, DL

Find a smashed D1 3.9 auto .... and move the entire thing across. The injection even looks easy to move over (the biggest bit would be moving the petrol tank and fuel lines).
