						SupporterThe air con in my 91 Hi-Line was working perfectly until it quite sudden stopped blowing air.
Fuses are good
Resistor pack is near new but maybe this has failed - comments please
Can't find any broken or disconnnected wires
Can't find which wire brings power to the switches, multimeter reads no voltage regardless of which terminal is tested. I would have expected the (heavier) brown wire UNLESS the resistor pack can inhibit the power supply to the switches
A jumper lead from a hot positive to any terminal on the switches makes the fans start again on high setting. Obviously I cannot leave the jumper wire conected permanently, even from a switched circuit, so I could install a new switch in that line to turn on the fans manually but that is not a very practical solution.
SO - any ideas on how to diagnose further and fix this?

						SupporterI reckon its more likely to be the relay.
Hard to decipher badly made wiring diagrams, but behind drivers kick panel is a series of relays.
What is actually there depends on what exact build RR you have, it changed so much between 90 and 92 according to diagrams.
They're similar, but different enough to need to check/guess/pot luck it.
But from what I can see, the fuse is powered by a relay.
You say fuse is good, but does it actually have power through and across it.
If you have a series of eight or so relays behind kick panel in a top(5) and bottom(3) rows, then top row, and second one forward away from the door.
But it could also be the first one(top) nearest the door too.
First one(near door) is marked as heater/air con, and second one forward of that first one is marked air con fan(does that one mean condenser fan, hard to know).
if it is the switch, is it the 4 position lateral slide switch? If so, they're no longer available, except old stock, and stupid expensive for a switch(~$400 ish).
Arthur.

						SupporterThank you Gentlemen!
The fact that the air stopped so suddenly suggests that either of you may be correct. It is a typical case of "not knowing what you don't know" so your comments are very helpful in trying to diagnose the problem.
Actually I do have a spare resistor pack so changing that will be the first attempt. If that doesn't work, I'll check/change the switches
Wish me luck

						When I got my RRC, half of the electrical systems didnt work. All but one system were due to old grease turning into glue preventing contact within the switch.

						SupporterHaven't given up yet - pretty much everything else on this beast has been done - at vast expense, including:
* New BMW 4.0 block with stepped liners and hi-comp pistons,
* New transmission (yes new not rebult)
* Replacement diffs
*Decent driving lights, light bar* numerous steering bushes
* P38 leather electric seats
*External wheel carrier
*Momo Steering wheel (installed by previous owner)
That was the good news - I have repaired various electric issues pretty much on an ongoing basis but still can't get the heater or aircon to work, despite changing the relays under the left kick panel. I red that there is a fuse (or another relay) under the right hand seat but I can't get to the bastard without removing the seat
Not having a heater/demister was interesting this morning - heavy ice on the windscreen and the sun immediately in front of me much of the time
Perhaps the advice of a mate might help namely "remove and keep the front amd rear number plates and throw away everything in between!

						SupporterThanks - Yes I have found 2 fuses and both are OK.
There is also a PRC 7413 that may be the fan controller. I have no way of testing this but I'm trying to get a replacment from TR Spares (They are checking their stock). Changing this unit may not fix the fan problem but it is worth trying

						SupporterOK - I have now changed the PRC7413 Fan controller, as well as all of the relays and fuses mentioned earlier - Still no fans for either the heater or aircon. The resistor pack has also been replaced and at $80 a time, I'm not keen to get another one.
As mentioned earlier, connecting a live positive DOES get fans to work so that suggest that the blower motor itself has not failed (comments please)
That leaves the slide switches as about the only remaining source of the problem other than a broken wire somewhere that I cannot find. I have just ordered a replacement (aftermarket) from Sparesbox for $42 including postage- a much better price than most others online. Wish me luck
