    ****box no go ....

    Well this is fun,

What powers the injection computer on these? Last night the car wouldn't start, but forunatly after pulling and checking all of the fuses, it decided to run. I bounced the youngest child down the goat tracks through the bush to school this morning and now it won't start again.

Its interesting, the fuel pump runs, however the gas solenoid will not click if I try and start it on gas, and there is no signs of fueling when cranking on petrol. I think the gas solenoids my be pulling power from the injection circuit. No power here, means no power for the LPG solenoids either.

I look to have no blown fuses under the drivers seat... Hmmm... Where do we actually source the power for the injection computer? is it one of the fusible links under the bonnet?

Hmm.... so I did check for voltages and power everywhere I shoudl have it in the ****box last night .... and everything looked fine to me anyway this morning I woke up and thought "hang on there was extra wiring spliced into the back of the injection ECU plug ..... is the LPG looking for a tacho signal before it'll flick the solenoid on ..... and the EFI computer could also not fire the injectors until there is a tacho signal ...... Um ..... could my obvious "no fuel" issues be "No spark". So this morning I went straight out and unplugged the AEB ignition advance unit ... and... suprise, suprise, it fired straight to life ...

New issue though, it turned straight off .... So I started it again, and it turned straight off. Bizarre, the key just this second decided it will not stay in the "run" position. so as soon as you let it go, it turns off. anyway I needed to drive it ... so we can figure a way around that issue.

just a little bit of a counter weight there to hold the key in run position, and we are away again!

Impromptu fixes. I'm reminded of the very small bulldog clip that I fitted to a corner of my tractor's guidance system display to keep 2 copper tracks together that had separated inside the touhpad film until a replacement touchpad was acquired. I'm also reminded of the elastic band that I fitted in place of a broken return spring on my employer's computer console golf-ball typewriter over 50 years ago.

Reminds me of an impromptu fix, with a LR connection. My mate borrowed a 4x4 Hilux from work to tow a car he bought to fix up. Unfortunately the spare keys didn't have the petrol cap key, and we were running out of fuel on the way back to the workshop. I remembered a story from my high school geography teacher, about how he got his Series LR back from the mountains when the fuel pump failed by putting a jerry can on the roof rack with a pipe down to the carburettor, so similarly we tied a 5 litre can to the windscreen wiper and got back that way.
