Help with Coil/Ignition Wiring on '86

    Hi All,

I can see this has been covered to death but I cant find info on my specific situation. I have an '86, 3.5 that has 14cux conversion done. When I bought it there was no distributor, coil, ignition amplifier in the car and seems to be missing the required link leads, loom etc. As there was nothing there to start with I'm not sure how to now get these wired in. I have a distributor with remote ignition amplifier, bracket and coil all from a donor 3.9.

I am looking for an ignition switched power but cannot find it. Picture below is where I thought I would find it but nothing. This plug is on passenger side of engine bay with some wires running to alternator. Others cut or not running anywhere.

I have gone through the wiring diagrams for pre-'85, '86 and '87+ year models but cant find anything that matches up with what I am looking at.

Any advice on where to pickup power for the coil would be greatly appreciated.

    Cheers,

    Matt.

    1. Do you have RAVE?
    2. Do you have a copy of the ETM for 14CUX model year (e.g.MY92) ?

Point being, is that the ETM you need to reference needs to be the later version for vehicles with 14CUX and the HEI dizzy.

The best thing to do with the ignition system is to wire it from scratch - in fact the entire engine bay harness may very well need other wiring due to age / degradation etc.

Use the late ETM and everything will be peachy -
    BUT

If you haven't already, factor in the bee-utey BIM024 ignition module relocation mod - and you will thank yourself for it.
Also, keep a spare dizzy with a known good reluctor coil at hand, one day you will get a failure like I did and the ensuing frustration will drive you bonkers, trying to get a working replacement.

Even better idea is ditch the 14cux and use a standalone ECU like a haltech.
Roads?.. Where we're going, we don't need roads...
