    New Tyres for RRC with working EAS

    Hi guys. The tyres on Bessie are well past their use by date, and the old girl doesn't get used for any heavy off road work these days.

    What have you found to be the best compromise between urban/highway and a smaller proportion of sand and gravel/corrugations please?

    With lesser mileage, wear longevity is also no longer so important.

    These are 205R16 so same size as OE.
    i had a set of Urban Terrain years ago on my 91 RRC and were very pleased with them. These look to be a similar if not the same tyre.

    I have 205 x 16's on my ute (1999 Courier 4x4) and they're the original spec tyre.

    Over the years it's had 215's but the 205's are way better for one reason.........the weight of the car, or more importantly the lack of it........... somewhere around 1450kg.

    Unladen tyre pressures are about 36 psi in the front and 23 in the back.

    With 215's it would slide around like crazy in the wet but with 205's it's much better.

    My 74 RRC has modded rostyles that are 15x7 and it has always had 31x10.5's. It weighs about 2000kg or a little less. These are fine in the wet so long as the tread pattern is open laterally right through the wear range. Duellers were hopeless in the wet when worn.

    The next set will most likely be slightly narrower if available.

    Hi Gavin, I had coopers atz p3 originally in a 225/75R16 and later swapped to Mickey T baja stz for the road, in 245/70R16 If you want the original size, a 205/80R16 Pirelli scorpion ATR would work perfectly for the OE spec ride.I preferred the bigger footprint of the mickey t and it is still on the old girl in farm hack duty, despite front left sidewall being sliced by a rock and one rear copping a stick to the sidewall on the inside... touch wood they last a bit longerThe LSE is running 235/85r16 BFG MT KM2's as I have done hardly any miles on them and they are on the procomp wheels with neg offset, so not suitable for a standard application.It did have federal couragia 33's on it when i bought it home and I didn't like the 8 hours I spent on them.I do have another set of cooper discoverer st maxx and those are also 33's and on standard 5 spoke rims, not happy with those, but only because the size is not suited to / for the track and rim width - they were the "towing set" i got with the car at the timeIf money were no object i'd shell for cooper discoverer at p3's or pirelli scorpions for the roadholding and quietand the little size difference between a 225/75r16 and a 245/70r16 over the original 205R16 (205/83/r16) is negligible on standard RRC alloy rims.hope that's not as confusing as it sounds.obviously steering clear of anything larger to avoid issues with clearance and lock to lock issues etc. - that is why I have the procomp american eagles. neg offset and 8" rim width for a better square fitment and no steering issues (the LSE has a 50mm body lift)
    Roads?.. Where we're going, we don't need roads...
