I would love a project like that... strip the RR down and rebuild. The only problem is that I wouldnt want to get it dirty after that!

This one was fun at the start and has been very challenging along the way. Its getting to the stage I need to get it finished. Taken 3 years so far. Now what did I do with all the small bits:eek: They are all in one box mixed up:eek::eek:. Lesson no 1, Always bag and label small parts! Lesson no 2, Have what you need before starting. The fans were standard fitment with aircon. Has JDM 4.2 Strocker with a higher duration cam, tuned exhast etc. Still has CD's that have been set up on a dyno. Other than art work,tyres/rims and longer travel shocks I plan to keep this one tame so its nice on road.

this is my steed. nothing flash, just an '88 highline 5spd that cost me $1850 on ebay last year. it has to carry me 20k each way every single day of the summer fire danger period from anglesea to the fire tower at peters hill near bambra.
i love it and it loves me back.

it will also very rarely foul a plug at position A4, especially if not used for a few days.
other than that it is a joy to own and drive. my only mods have been to remove the driver's side seat height spacers (i'm 6'5"), fit a lights on alarm and to add that tjm rack which i bought for $118.
looking forward i would like to improve my tyres, currently yokohama geolander IIs, with something better suited to coarse bluestone forest tracks. i also want to look at improving dust sealage at the tailgate end and finally, to ditch the sunroof to further improve headroom. it all works fine but shows evidence of leakage during winter and the internal screen self opens and then rattles irritatingly.
thanks again for your vote of confidence in my careful selection of model. in truth it was the first manual one in my price range that popped up on ebay, nobody else bid and i won. it was in balmain sydney, with the owner o/s, so i hopped on a jetstar, bought a battery, checked the vital fluids and drove it 1020kms home in a rainstorm. fortune sometimes favours the brave, eh?
Quite a mistory machine!, Things are very interchangable on this model so dont spend big $$$ on any worn componants. Look around this forum and you will get some great input. I still think the 88 is a good find. the LT 77 will be the worst enemy. Can be replaced if shot. My 84 that I'm restoring has Lt77:o and Lt 230TC:D. When you get to know them they are good bot dont take the abuse that ol 4 spd!Quote:

I love mine with a passion, but like you, cant spare big $$ on it and I too was surprised on how cheap parts where (much much cheaper than Jap stuff).
As Rangier Rover says, post up parts that you need and you never know, members here may have something to give for very little $$ or even free!!
Personally I think owning a vehicle is not just about driving it, but being involved in it.

Thats's what really ****s me about dickheads who rubbish LR's. Parts are not expensive if you know where to look so matenance can be done cheaply. Toyota parts are more than double in soem cases.
Re-On the cheap. This was the concept of project tight ****, my 76 Rangie. The idea was to get the vehicle going for less then $3K (included the $1K purchase price). I didn't include rego, I consider an ongoing cost on any project of all budgets.
