    fitting headers

    G,day all . i have picked up a set of headers for my 3.9 , is there any special fitting needs that i need to be aware of ?? do i need gaskets etc ??

    Either will work fine , the single gaskets ( 8 of ) are a pain but work fine .

    Later model ones can be bought that are one peice per side ( 2 of )

    If you use the singles make sure they go on the correct way , the bolt holes can be lined up either way but the gaskets only seal one way .

    Silicon that is high temp rated is fine as well just have to be a bit careful it doesn`t get wiped off when fitting .

    If they`re new , they were probably supplied with new bolts ?

    If not you will probably need new ones as some may be too long and also the heads of the bolts may be too large also if they don`t have locking heads , spring washers will be of value in the long run .

    It`s a good idea to be sure all threads on bolts and in the heads are clean and have no burrs or such .

    The main thing to watch out for is that you don`t cross thread any of the bolts and of coarse you don`t break any when removing the manifolds .

    I had them on my 4.6 classic. I wouldn't recommend them, they are far noisier than the cast iron manifolds for very little useful gain..

    That's why I sold a new set I had to LRH.

    They make more noise for little gain. Efi manifolds work well. I use silicon, seems to last.

    I seem to recall from the book on tuning Rover V8s that the EFI manifolds are pretty good.

    Re silicone, my local LR guys use it, too.

    Its true, I've even had some dynoed. They can make things worse! Depends who makes them, if tuned in length and port miss match.
