    Aircon fitting into a classic

    Hi,

    Regarding a 1974 rangie.

Doesn't have aircon, so am wondering if it's an easy job to fit it?

    Thanks,
    Alex

On new ones, we used to fit a Mark IV Allegro which replaced the glovebox.

I've seen two different ones fitted, the first as mentioned above replaces the glove box and the other is a single unit which contains both the heater and airconditioning unit in one, you may be able to fit a later classic rangie sustem in but then its a matter of sorting out the wiring

I can't think why you can't. I would say it was do-able, but easier if you can get a whole setup from a existing RRC then all the high pressure pipes would be the right length and the fittings would be in place.
Be prepared to pull your dashboard out it's a PITA !

I have seen a couple of units sitting on the top of other 4x4's I don't know anything about them but they look like it might be an easier job?

The pipes may not be all the correct length as the early 2 door rangies had the york type compressor which was located at the bottom passenger side of the engine at the front and the later classics had the rotary type compressor fitted at the top drivers side near the battery. There was a bracket that was available to fit a rotary type compressor to the lower passenger side of the motor for the early rangies.
