    Solid front brake lines- removing my ABS brakes entirely

    In the process of removing my ABS brakes from the Vog, I have come unstuck with the issue of solid steel brake lines. The ABS ones are not too long on the drivers side. Tried bending them around and it's not idea to be quite honest with oyu.

    I was planning on getting some made up but after ringing some of the local wreckers they refuse to sell me some second-hand ones for legal reasons. I tried Enzed and they need a pattern so they can copy them, of which I don't have any. was wondering if anyone around here has a set for the drivers side (must be 1988 onwards) around the prop valve and down the drivers side which then hooks up to a fitting just under the footwell. If you have the front passenger side ones, i'll be keen on a complete set and have them all made up professionally. Also I need the line that runs from the rear of the prop valve, fitting is a bit larger and that's reall the important one even that oner would suffice. I can bend around the old ones and get them made close to the spec I'm after.

    Please note I won't be re-fitting them. I don't skimp on brakes, rather get it done properly.

    When I did the brake lines on the Defender I was told to go out and buy steel line to length with the correct tails on it. The price was cheap enough so that you could pick up a few lengths and work out what is going to work best. Bending brake lines takes a little practice, but isn't difficult, just takes a softish touch and something stiff and round to bend it across.

    Ah the memories.

    Having a few lengths to muck up is a good thing. The most difficult I found was the 180* reverse on the LHS front line into the caliper, and have to keep the bend tight or hang up on full left lock.

    Weren't you selling a set of RR brake pipes a while ago on ebay?

    BTW, paying hose place to bend them up for you is a waste of time and money. They charge by the hour, and the job they turned up for me was worse than I could do. Cheaper to buy spares and make mistakes.

    I was thinking of doing that if I had some problems, only thing is that I don't have a clue where to get the line from.

    What I was also planning on doing was bending up the old lines to what I require and just get them made jup to order, shouldn't be too exxy. I also have to get some flexi ones made to suit the body lift anyway and the longer shock travel to boot (about 100mm).

    Will keep hunting though, thanks for your input.

    PS- i had some solid ones but they were from the caliper to the body mounting. I had an 88 Rangie I salvaged and that would of been perfect, didn't plan on buying a ABS equipped Rangie either But it was cheap so it's worth a bit of hassle.

    They advertise that they sell pipe & they should have the new flare nuts to suit also (you can reuse the originals).


    "Record" make a small hand bender that isn't too expensive. I paid about $25 for mine a few years ago from Gasweld.
    Double flarers are a bit exxy so just get your pipe, bend it up & get the brake place to do the flares for you. It only takes them a few seconds to do them.

    Bloody hell, you live in NSW and know where to look

    Browns Plains are just around the corner for me (well about 10 mins away from here). I'll ring them either this arvo or tomorrow, hope to have it all sorted by thew weekend at the least.

    you might want to check the legalities of removing the ABS system from your vehicle, IIRC its illegal to remove a factory fitted safety device such as ABS

    I have already looked into it and I can get a mod plate for it.

    By the way, most mechanics who aren't Rangie enclined wouldn'
    t have a clue as long as the brakes worked. I removed the ECU, sensors, etc.. on my 93 and i never had any legal issues. Great brakes though.
