    380 gear box crunch

Its started! Iread a few threads on this and was hoping to avoid problems. I have barely driven the car, it drives very well BUT the first gear grinds a bit. I looked at the floor and noticed the foot rest was bent under the clutch and not allowing full travel but this did not stop the problem entirely. In other cars I have noticed when the clutch fluid needs a change and bleed the gears can grind a bit and it reminds me of that. It may also be that I need to change the box oil and get used to driving the car. Quesitons: is it a worn syncro? what is the optimum oil for the box? could it be clutch fluid? is there anything else I should know?

    thanks

it could be just a little clutch drag causing too much work for a wornish syncro.

think of how often you actually need to change down to first on the fly.

fix the clutch problem first, make sure the fluid is tip top and the system is bled correctly and maintaining its integrity.

if that doesnt sovle it for when you first move off just do the old 2-1 start where you notch second gear to stop all the shafts then pick first to move off.

Ok thanks, I didnt know that notching 2nd stops the shafts so that 1st can be engaged smoothly. I will try it out and see how it goes.

Where exactly is the L, K or whatever series my box is markings? I am about to brave the cold wet grass and climb under to check it out.
