Hi peoples,
Ok a mate has a 76 2 door we rolled last weekend, roof's all pushed and moved out of original position. we have just found another 2 door 76 for 500 bucks in good nick with after market seats and a roll cage. Question is. Im picking this is a big job?? anyone done it before?? we have plenty of helpfull hands just want to get your opinion. We think we can just change plates over as they are both 3.5 carby. Thanks guys

no its the tan army colour.we dont have a hoist and doing it aussie style, plenty of blokes and beer.
book says its 12 bolts and all the fittings, i just dont think i've considered all the little things atattched???
10 body mounts, 4 seat belt jiggers, rad and all engine stuff, fuel lines, filler etc, brake lines, speedo, wiring for CDL reverse switch, vac hoses to CDL, gear levers.................then everything you miss when you first try to lift it off![]()
A 2 door is a Meccano set, rather than a body swap it's more like an exchange of panels.
I did my 4 door 1985 by myself sitting on the ground and had a new colour applied to the external panels while they were off.
It also means that you dont have to touch any of your original seating, or transmission gadgets.
You just remove the roof and all the skin panels. Then undo the "picture frame" from around the back door then the 2 ladder panels (1 on each side). All the pillars are part of the ladder side panel but usually your firewall is undamaged.
I think it is four bolts to hold the ladder to the fire wall, an rubber mount in front of the rear wheel and two rubber mounts for the picture frame. Then lots of bolts and a couple of pop rivets to stick the ladder to the picture frame. I used lots of Mastic between the two frames and now have a much quieter vehicle. Easy, just lots of time screwing.

You won't find me on: faceplant; Scipe; Infragam; LumpedIn; ShapCnat or Twitting. I'm just not that interesting.
Thanks Rovercare, we have both cars side by side now. And the process has begun. Do you have any idea how heavy the body will be by itself with doors and seats attatched.?? just trying to work out how many guys we need. Also when we lift the car up is there a likely hood that the body will twist or are they rigid??? thanks again simon
Heavy, 2 door doors wiegh a shate load, I'm guessing atleast 8 if they're strong, but really, I don't know, the more the better, as getting it into position will be a painful exercise by hand
Oh yea, forget to mention the steering colomn, clutch line
It'll be fine to swap over, it will twist about, but once on the chassis should be fine![]()
