I'm using a serial port on the laptop- it's a few years old so has the port available, using Device Manager though I can't make much sense of it- I am stretching my computer skills a little beyond their limits. I figured if I get a chance to play with it tomorrow-may be Monday the way things are looking- i'll just have a go at each port setting in the EASunlock setup menu until one of them works. It's actually possible that my DB9 cable connector is not making contact with the port on the laptop- the dick smith serial connector on my cable has protrusions that foul on the case of the laptop so that it does not fully seat in the female port, I may need to shave some plastic to ensure it is seating properly.
Might be on the manual controller for a few days yet- glad i took the time to make this rather than poking wires from pin to pin.
After spending a couple of hours yesterday afternoon with zero success, this morning I finally managed to get the EASunlock program to interface with the ECU on the Rangie!
Reset the ECU and-voila!-working EAS! seems it was solely the clapped-out compressor that had been wrong with it when the airbags were removed in favour of coils (I know- all you guys who have removed EAS are saying that was just the straw that broke the camel's back- probably true).
The compressor is still NQR- it was not going to be easy to source new brushes-and I was getting impatient- so I bunged the compressor back together with the old brushes and bypassed the overheat cutout (which is open-circuited). Worked the compressor a bit too hard when I was testing the system today I think- it blew the maxi-fuse twice in quick succession- at $4.90 a throw.
The o-ring kit for the valve block arrived in the mail today, along with the dessicant refill, so I think I will try and get hold of new brushes and the overheat cutout before fitting everything back up for the final time.
Anyhow, I am now the proud possessor of;
1: functioning EAS,
2: a manual controller for when it faults out,
3; a set of schraeder valves with 6mm push-in connections for when the compressor or valve-block fail, and
4; a set of coils and the necessary fittings for when I come to regret the whole idea.
Thanks again to those who have helped out with hints, advice and links.
Pete
