    seat switch moves door mirrors??!!

    Salutations.

My 92 vogue SE has this problem that when I try to adjust the drivers elect. seats - both door mirrors move and not the seat.

Not just up & down but also get full rotation of the mirrors as if I was using the toggle switch.

I've pulled the console out and there are no earthing of any of the wires on the floor that I can pick up???? and the switch for the mirrors are miles away from the seats so I cant see a common path for a short???

I'm a bit reticent about pulling the switch apart .....been there before on the passengers side....WW1 technology best left alone and very expensive to replace.

I'vr been told that they have they're own computer, just for the seats ..could this be acting up?

A few years back I remember another member complaining about this fault but couldn't find the thread with a search. Has anyone any ideas what I should be looking at?

There is a group earth in the drivers footwell just next to the tunnel or on the tunnel just in front of the drivers seat.
    Check that one.
I think that the seats are just electric with earth via the switches. No computer AFAIK. My 93 vogue has all the relay sockets but no relays and seats Thank God.

    Thanks Philip,
I'll have a look.....the only group earth that I have found so far is on the tunnel and earths the elect. windows, but there could be one under the seat. Trouble is the seat is fully back so I can't remove it.

EDIT AH.... finally realised the connection (thanks to a chat with Graham Cooper) the preset switch on the drivers seat also presets the mirrors.........maybe a computer problem.......I'll still check earths etc.

OK...I found out that the ECU for the memory seats has a backup battery, that if (when) it dies leaks onto the circuit boards causing ...well problems like I'm having.

To rule this out as a probability I have to remove the ECU from under the seat (that I cant remove) to open up and check it for obvious corrosion.

So next question - How do I remove the unit insitu? anyone got any clues?
