    Cost for LT230

    Hey All

Just wondering what the cost would be to swap out the viscous transfer from a later RR classic for a LT230? Is it a fiddly job hooking up any ancillaries or is it just bolt in?

I am thinking of getting a Rangie in the next year or so for a offroad beast (ie - cant afford the damage to the disco) and am doing my research. I am thinking 85-87 rangie, but there are some nice 1991-1992 rangies out there. Thinking of the later ones mainly due to the 3.9 V8.

    Cheers

    Angus

From memory you'll need a different front driveshaft, the handbrake setup is different and make sure you get all the linkages/brackets for the CDL.

But if the Viscous is working leave it like that till it brakes or siezes as they are much smoother - I split the casing on mine so had to change but as we had a LT230 it was the easier option.

I've done it the other way around in order to get away from the incessant clunking. The parts that were different are as stated above ie. Front driveshaft, handbrake brackets, cables and linkages, the gear selector including the range/cdl selector and centre console.

    Clunking

If it's clunking badly, your mainshaft is worn. Common issue on older LT230's when they didn't get enough lubrication to the shaft (fixed on later models such as the Disco). LR packed them with grease, grease went hard over time and the shaft ran dry causing it to wear

The Viscous is okay if you're not into any sort of hard-core stuff, for me it get the big A

    A good LT230 can't be more than $5-700, anything more is a rip-off IMO!!!

I paid 800 for one with a CDL for a 2003 disco so early ones are less than 500
