    Rangie suspension-EAS

I have over the last six months or so asked lots of questions about the suspension on my Rangie.
I first bought the Rangie with the EAS fitted but soon after it started to develop a lot faults which no one, i.e. Rangie specialists could fix, so I converted it to coils, which made the ride very uncomfortable.
To make a long story short I took the vehicle to a Rangie specialist at Redcliffe in Queensland who put the EAS back on it, and no it didn't cost a fortune as I thought it would.

Now all I have to do is find out what maintenance I can do myself to prevent the failures again.

    Cheers all,
    Mike

Good onya for putting it back on!! I would invest in a EAS kicker from black box solutions and a rave manual on cd. Mine cost under $500 including the update to let me recaliberate the height sensors. I also got the p38 cable as well in that price. Then study the manual to understand the system and I rekon you can diagnose the problem and fix it youself no worries. Its not allways the expensive parts that go wrong but even the cheap fixes can become dear when you need someone else to diagnose and repair it. From my experience if your after a really supple ride with EAS, drop your tyre pressures and raise the ride height about 15mm. Its made all the difference to mine. If you need any help with yours give us a shout.
sorry to waffle but to answer your original question, put a new air filter for the commpressor in and a bit off air motor oil in it. gave mine a new lease off life and dramatically improved the respone time from each hieght setting.

    good luck with it mate

    cheers

Good move Mike, nice to see someone else bucking the trend. There is a wealth of info on the net to help you maintain the EAS- do a search for a bloke in the US called Storey Wilson; he has developed a free software program called EASunlock that you can download to diagnose, reset and even calibrate your EAS with a laptop pooter. His site also has a link to another mob- I forget the name- who can sell you a complete valve-block overhaul kit with full instructions for about US$30, well worthwhile and will stave off problems from the valve block for several years. The compressor inlet air filter is apparently often overlooked, bung a new one in whilst you are at it. Also replace the dessicant in the air dryer- no need to buy a new cannister, you can get a pack of dessicant when you order the valve block kit. The EAS on my vehicle had been removed due to the compressor failing. If the previous owner had spent $160 on a piston and sleeve for the compressor- or just $30 for the piston sleeve alone, it would never have been a problem.

    EAS

    Thanks for input fellas.
I forgot to mention that MR auto also installed an emergency air inlet system as well, those blokes are good.

    Cheers

Just found the name of the mob who sell the valve-block kits and other stuff; Range Rover Air Suspension repair, advice and troubleshooting by Rover Renovations. and the EASunlock software is a free download from www.sourceforge.net

What would be involved in fitting the air suspension to a rangie that has never had it?
Does having the air make a lot of difference to the ride?
What would it cost to convert to air?
    Thanks

Am changing mine to "manual" air ride...or thats the plan. have found to many things can go wrong with computer / height sensor / relays / leaks
    in the system etc, etc...

Thus have engaged mechanic to turn RR into a "thump Thump" vehicle with manual settings for ride height

Will keep you posted on the conversion

    Retrofit EAS?

Anthony, a lot of work. Sourcing the donor parts would be the first phase - and the list is pretty long! If you have the RRC CD from DIT, check out the electrical troubleshooting, workshop and parts manuals for a starter. You also need shocker turrets, front axle casing and a lot of patience.

    Can we watch?

    Pete

BTW, I've just got Roger back onto airbags after some fettler from Pedders put it onto coils. I couldn't drive the thing - it was such a harsh ride. Now comes the good bit, the electrics. The valve block's OK, the bags are OK, I've got EASunlock from US (brilliant!). Keep all posted.

    Thumbs up

Luddites, unite! If I can do it, nearly anyone can! EASunlock works very well, the ECU was cleared of all faults and I saw why the previous owner didn't hesitate to convert to coils - his mechanic (so called) induced hard faults one after another - pull this off, push that thing, wonder what this button does, etc.

It's very user friendly and I recommend it - highly.

Go the Yanks when it comes to solutions.

So now Roger is back on air !!!!!

    Cheers

Well done Pierre. I was stoked when I got mine working after the reinstall- felt like I had been cheated every time I drove it with the coils.
I had a lot of trouble getting my EASunlock program to work, it would only communicate with the ECU after at least half an hour of mucking around, jiggling wires, switching on & off, cursing etc. The other day when using it again I discovered I had connected the transistor in the cable the wrong way- shouldn't have worked at all! Put another transistor in the right way and the program now works first time, every time.
