    Radiator compatibility query?

Hi, I'm going to swap a 3.5 for a 3.9 in my '88 EFi Auto Rangie and was wondering if I needed the 3.9 radiator? I 'm not too sure of the differences if anyone can let me know?

    Many thanks,

    Fish.

Depends what the motor comes out of .... I would grab the radiator if possible ... as it will have the correct engine oil lines

Read this Link ... Range Rover Engine Change

    Ask BigJon how it went

Which EFI system are you going to use // The original??

    Hi Mike,

Thought sod it, will get the radiator and the expansion tank with sensor while I was at it! Much easier probably than messing about.

Got the whole lot coming, loom, ecu, afm etc, so will go with the 3.9 EFi set up.

Just want it to get here now! Excited....

So you are removing the "Dunny door" EFI then???

THEN ... Get the "Charcoal canister" and ALSO the PURGE VALVE that is located beside it

Read all of BigJon posts on the subject ... I will try to find them for you tonight

It would be handy to ask BigJon ... as he has been where you are going

Thanks Mike, what are the charcoal cannister and purge valve and what do they do?

Canister is part of your breather fuel line system (roughly speaking)

    Drivers side of engine bay

Lined up on the wheel arch in order .... Coolant expansion bottle ... then ... Charcoal canister (black with breather lines) .... then .... Purge valve (size of match box with 2 pin wire & vacuum line hooked up)

Canister is on your RRC 88 ... but no purge valve ... (as far as I know) ... you will need both items off the "doner car"

Wanna do us the courtesy of letting us know what this New motor & wiring harness is coming out of???

Thanks Mike, it's out of a 1990 Range Rover Auto.

    I've had a few 3.5's but this'll be my first 3.9.

I've heard of the charcoal canister's but don't think they were fitted to UK Rangie's (I'm from Scotland), I've certainly never seen one.

Purge valve? What does it do, and will engine not run without it?

    Cheers for help.

Funny enough ... Mine is the 1990 RRC ..

I don't have photos of my engine bay to show you
Yes ... You will need the 2 items if you want to run the 1990 EFI system
I ain't up to speed on "exactly" how it works (Purge & Canister) .. so I can't answer your Q

You know it maybe "easier" just to run the 3.9 on your 88 EFI door system ... Then it would be just "plug & play"

    Hmmmm, is sounding that way!!!

I think after much swearing and chucking of spanners, that may end up being the case.

I guess the purge valve and cannister have sensors back to the ECU then?

Ho hum, these things do grow arms and legs!

Mike, any chance of a photo of the offending items?
