Thread: Some Advice Needed

Hi new to this site, am looking to purchase a second Range Rover (I have an old 1975 Land Rover) it is a 1983 4 door and has mileage shown as 87K. Would appreciate any advice on what to look for and general problems with this model. Any assistance would be appreciated.

G'day,I just bought an 1983 Rangie a couple of months ago,that's when I joined this forum.I am very happy with the truck,but here's some issues I had to deal with straight up.
Rust~As already mentioned,look for rust in the upper and lower tailgate,sills and floors,inner gaurds.I replated mine with a MIG,but can be expensive if you get someone else to do it for you.
Fuel Tank~ The fuel tanks can get pinholes in them,mine looked fine until I washed it with a pressure cleaner,then fuel went everywhere.New aftermarket ones are about $460.

As far as the electrics goes,they seem fine to me,you will need to make sure you have the right flasher unit though,or the blinkers won't flash,just stay on.
Tuning the SU/Zenith style carbs is actually something I reall enjoyed doing,call me crazy.Use a vacuum gauge set just like on a motorbike.all the neccesary settings can be found in a workshop manual or on the web.You will find these carbs much more fuel efficient than a Holley when correctly tuned.
Factory airfilters are hard to get though,I use a couple of pod filters from Stupidcheap,exact fit.
