3.5L RANGIE low compression
hey all,
Only had my rangie for 4 months. Its a 82 model 3.5 V8
Had a heap of fun in it and very impressed how far i have got..
So i've hit my first problem, its a major too. doesn't start... Low compression. The lowest one of the cylinders read wen i did a test was 25 Psi.. so m taking it there is a problem with the head..
So what should i do replace the engine with the same?
just rebuild the one thats there now..(how much will need to be done.)
put a different engine in????
would love a diesel engine!!!
Any help guys??

G'day rangerover82
Providing that you haven't overheated it, and if all the low compression readings are on one side of the motor, then it could only be a blown head gasket, if it has been overheated, then both heads need to be removed and the heads checked for warps and cracks, then providing the valves are OK replaced with new head and valley gaskets
cheers

And I'm with UncleHo, but if you want to up the ante...
I think all V8s will fit in the hole. It's the adaptions needed which take the nutting out (driveplate/flywheel, etc). If you go with a late (>94) injected engine, get the applicable radiator as well. The electrics may take a bit of adapting, but it's not rocket science.
We put a 3.9 into a 85 4 door without too much drama at all.
BigJon has just done a 3.9 transplant into his 88 RRC with piccies as well. Have a bit of a look at that thread to start your investigation.
