Hi,
The fuel tanks rust where they bolt up to the rear crossmember, could be leaking from there (mine was) when more than half full. It won't necessarily look wet.
The rubber hoses to and from the expansion tank rot (mine was). It's not a big job to take the whole side / quarter panel off and fix properly. Disconnect or remove the tail light. Drill out all the pop rivets at the front and rear, remove the 2 bolts f & r at the wheel arch and remove the screws along the top edge.
cheers, DL

You'll have to disconnect the filler tube as well to get the guard off. From memory it was easier to do the job by undoing the hose clamp at the tank end.
If you do this you must take a lot of care to plug the tank filler. I would run it out of fuel beforehand as well.

hi 350 yeh i drove to work this morning and it was fine but coming home it got bad but not as bad and it really seems like it was coming in from around the dash but maybe that was just the fumes getting to me . i didnt mention that it only has a small 40 ltr tank under the expansion tank on the drivers side, i had it out a few months ago and didnt depressurise the system could this have caused the smell? and the tank looked ok, could it be the charcol canister, one hose was loose so i taped it up again at the moment i'm with you the, expansion tank
thanks m8
