swivels, Swivels, SWIVELS!!!
my 85 rangy has developed a violent steering shudder at 95kph, usually set off by a small bump in the road...i've replaced the ball joints, tie rod ends, steering damper (not heavy duty) and done a wheel allignment.. but still there...my mechanic says it may be cause the gas tank in the rear has sagged the rear springs...another says swivel bearings in the front wheel..but theres no slack in wheels when elevated..any help would be appreciated![]()

Just in case I wasn't clear, you need to check the swivel bearing preloads. It is a safe bet there won't be any. You might find you have to replace the swivel bearings to get it right, but on my '87 build Rangie I just pulled two shims out of each side.
panhard bushes, or swivels, 9 times out of 10 its panhard. Go get some super pro poly panhard bushes and vice (and a second pair of hands) and stick em in, for around $28 its worth a try
As mentioned before... It will likely be the swivel preload. The damper will only mask a problem. To check the panhard move the steering left right wile stationary and if worn the car will move left right with it.
The rear springs being sagged is cobblersIf any thing will help the camber angle in steering. Camber is more likely to cause it to wander than wheel shimmy.
I run up to 35" on my Rovers here and they are not even balanced properly but get away with it cause the bushes and swivel preload are bang on. They are very forgiving usually.
thank you gentlemen...ill get onto them swivels as soon a i find a ball joint toolcheers
I'm with the Mirboo pack. Panhard rod bushes, but I'd use the standard ones.
