    How long is to long

I am just posting to try and find some opinions on how long is to long for my 86 range rover to be sitting in the garage before it starts to be detrimental to the car.
I havent been able to fix the starter motor due to university exams and lack of funds, so it has been sitting for about a month or so now.
Any advice would be great and any info on the problems that leaving the car sitting could cause would be better.

    Cheers.

If a few weeks or so will be fine. If longer the battery may chuck it in unless maintained. If longer again a few seals may weep. If longer the brake/clutch cylinders could give grief. If much longer like years the fuel will go off in the lines and injectors. Any thing made of rubber will have likely perished, Tyres will be out of round for a wile unless on blocks. Umm... spiders and other vermin may move in

I wouldn't have thought a month or two or three or four would hurt it...

Plenty of cars get left longer than that between cranks!

    Thanks for the replies,
I am thinking about giving the rover a roll start and taking it out for a drive to charge the battery and make sure everything else is still there.

Roll starting shouldn't do any damage if i only do it a couple of times right?

    Cheers.

This is a V8 Range Rover right?

Taking it out for a drive to charge the battery would probably cost more than a 2nd hand starter motor .

It it were a series a year or four and would be fine These old things I have here amaze me. Chuck in some fuel, prime the lift pump, stick a half buggered ex diesel land cruiser battery in and they kick straight to life.

A small battery charger would be cheaper again and handy for latter on.

Since we are on the subject (sort of), Has anyone tried experimenting with ways to get a better seal around a starter motor?

The reson i ask is i think that it was oil getting in that killed my last starter and i dont want to replace it, only for oil to get in the new one.
I would try an stop the oil leaking but cash is an issue at the moment so getting a better seal may be the go.

When the trusty old Rover V8 leaks that bad it likely has bad blow by and pressurising the sump I would think. I have a few here and never had starters fail due to oil ingestion. My old power shift JD tractor yes. Came up with a sealed starter.
Most engines leak when they're nearly stuffed. The low stress one just go longer like it.
