Ive got a 1985 Range rover station wagon with what I assume to be a carbie problem. Its a Rover V8 with twin Su carbies. It is also on Gas (LPG). The fault however concerns petrol. It starts and runs very rich. If you go to turn it off and turn it back on within one or so minutes it wont start. It will only restart if you let it rest for ten or so minutes or start cranking with the petal to the boards. It will crank for about a minute, just before the battery goes and then it will fire up. The only way its been usable is if you turn off the petrol before turning it off, ie the LPG/Petrol switch half way and rev it until all the petrol ing the float is used up. I assume its a fault where the needle isn't reseating and not shutting off the fuel to the float? I'm not experienced in the SU carbie, or any carbie for that matter, can someone point me in the direction of a rebuild manual for this carbie or suggest any fixes?

if they are the cd175's theres a few people who have the manuals to rebuild them.
if you dont understand the basics of carbies DONT EVEN THINK about touching them yourself.
IT sounds like its done a float which in and of itself is an easy enough fix but its usually complicated by gaskets that get damaged during the dismantling process and the retune on rebuild.

I have had the same issue with CD175s there are a couple of reason this happens sometimes the needles wear over time when running on gas the other thing that happens is the cold start mechanism gums up and with this result, a bit of carby cleaner through the cold start circuit can clear it up
I have also replaced the needles and retuned them and its never run better.
Make sure the dashpots have oil in them and give it a good run on petrol sometimes they can come good.
I have always found SUMidel in Sydney to be the best source of needles and specialist parts.
If they are SU s they have thier own unique issues that I dont know much about
