So I was reading up in the workshop manual that removing the gearbox is done through the floor? Which requires removal of the heater box and other associated interior bits. Is it possible to remove the box out the bottom? Or is it just too hard this way?

Phew.. I was looking at the manual going "I seriously don't want to do that".
Another question- is there a kit available to seal the input shaft or oil pump.. whatever they have there? Mine has developed a substantial leak after the drive from melbourne to sydney!
agreed, they come out of the bottom. its a tad more fiddly for some of the bolts but IMHO a lot less hassle than the way the manual wants you to do it.
long guide bolts, rope slings and a trolly jack (assuming you dont have a 2 post hoist and transmission jack) are the way to go.

Definately the input shaft seal/oil pump whatever they have. Pulled the inspection plate off had a squiz, theres no oil on the flywheel on the engine side or any evidence of oil coming from the rear main. In saying that, I'll definately change that too while the box is out.
